WORLD PRESS PHOTO EXHIBITION

It was a privilege to have the opportunity to visit the World Press Photo Exhibition 2024 in Budapest. The exhibition is on it’s worldwide tour and 2024 marks the 67th annual World Press Photo Contest. It showcases the best and most important photojournalism and documentary photography of the past year. All the images are thought provoking. Many are not easy on the eye. Images with huge impact. Previous images have shook people up and resulted in Government policy change. For more information click here.

BUDAPEST

Budapest is the capital and most populated city in Hungary. It’s also the 9th largest city in the European Union. The central area of Budapest along with the Danube River is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s a beautiful city and attracts 12 million international tourists per year. The most famous Budapest bridge is the Chain Bridge, built in 1849, the icon of the city’s 19th century development. For more information click here.

PARLIAMENT BUILDING

The Hungarian Parliament Building is a notable landmark of Hungary. It is situated on the eastern bank of the Danube. The Hungarian Parliament Building has remained the largest building in Hungary since it’s completion in 1902. It was designed by architect Imre Steindl in neo-gothic style and is a popular tourist destination in Budapest. For more information click here.

PINBALL MUSEUM

Worth a visit. The Pinball Museum of Budapest. A collection of more than 140 interactive pinball machines and vintage arcade games dating from 1947. You can have a go on them all, but be careful, the gaming experience is addictive! For more information click here.

SHOES BY THE DAUBE

A sobering memorial. The Shoes on the Danube Bank is a memorial erected on the 16th April 2005 in Budapest. It was conceived by film director Can Togay. He created it on the east bank of the Danube River with sculptor Gyula Pauer to honour the jews who were massacred by fascist Hungarian militia belonging to the Arrow Cross Party during the Second World War. ST.STEPHEN’S BASILICA

St.Stephen’s Basilica is a Roman Catholic basilica in Budapest. The Basilica is named in honour of Stephen, the first king of Hungary. St.Stephen’s is the third largest church building in present day Hungary. It is the largest church in Budapest. Symbolising the conquest of 896, the height of the dome is 96 meters, equal to the height of the roof of the Hungarian Parliament. For more information click here.

VAJDAHUNYAD CASTLE

Vajdahunyad Castle is a castle in the City Park of Budapest. It is a copy of Hunyad Castle in Hunedoara, Romania. The castle was built in 1896 as part of the Millennial Exhibition which celebrated the 1000 years of Hungary since the Hungarian Conquest of the Carpathian Basin in 895.
