FOLLOWING A BUSY SPELL OF WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
DUBROVNIK CROATIA
Following a really busy spell of wedding photography, a touch of motorsport photography and a sprinkling of commercial photography we got a spare week. So what do you do when you have some spare time? First of all we decided to have a few days away. We decided to head to Croatia and the Old City of Dubrovnik. I thought it might be interesting, educational, with a few sites to see. No surprise, it was great.
WALLED CITY
Dubrovnik is a city in southern Croatia fronting the Adriatic Sea. It’s known for its distinctive Old Town, encircled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th century.
LOKRUM
Lush Lokrum is a beautiful, forested island. It’s full of holm oaks, black ash, pines and olive trees. Lokrum island is only a 10 minute ferry ride from Dubrovnik’s Old Harbour.
FORT LAWRENCE
Fort Lawrence is a large free-standing fortress, constructed on a 37 metre high promontory adjacent to the old town. It was built to guard the city’s western approach from invasion by land or sea. It has walls that range from 4 metre to 12 metre in thickness. There’s not a lot inside, it’s pretty empty. The big draw are the battlements. They offer some wonderful views over the Old City.
SUMMARY
In Summary, Dubrovnik was great and we enjoyed every minute. It was so different to any other city in the world. What was noteworthy was how friendly everyone was and that it wasn’t overly busy in October.
