BACK AT GLENRIDDING HOUSE

It was great to be back at Glenridding House on Ullswater. That’s partly because Graeme Cameron Photography is the approved wedding photographer for Glenridding House. This time we were back because we were the official wedding photographers for Simon & Tanya. It was an intimate family wedding. We took wedding photos throughout the day.

SMILE PLEASE

According to the Groom, Simon, he’s not someone who can smile on cue. To be honest, who can ? Successful wedding photography is a bit more than pointing a camera at people and asking them to smile. We don’t photograph ‘fake’ smiles for the simple reason that they look, well, fake ! It didn’t take long to develop a rapport with Simon and in no time we were on the same wave length. Real smiles all the way.

CUTTING THE CAKE

When we were photographing the cutting of the wedding cake the only face not smiling in the room was Charles Darwin’s portrait which adorns the wall.

GLENRIDDING HOUSE ULLSWATER

Glenridding House is an iconic wedding venue steeped in history. It is a magnificent Grade two Listed  villa. Originally built in around 1815 with its unique fine cast iron latticed arched balcony in a truly stunning location. It was built for  Reverend Askew who married a Storrs lady. Documents show the house was used as a guest house by Mrs Dalton and Robert Bownass and it continued in this guide for most of the 19th and 20th centuries. The Dolly steamboat was recovered in the 1960s  moored in front of Glenridding House, it sank there in a storm, this first historic steamboat is now in the Windermere steam boat museum.

CHARLES DARWIN

Charles Darwin stayed at Glenridding House and came with members of his family for a five week holiday in June 1881.
