Digital SLR photographer courses

For several years Graeme Cameron Photography has successfully been running digital SLR photographer courses in Cumbria for individuals like you. Knowing and understanding the basic principles of digital SLR photography is fundamental in achieving your unique photographic goals. Whether you have photographic interest specifically in beautiful landscapes, stunning portraits, incredible wildlife, gritty urban life, close up and personal macro or a mixture of many styles we want you to develop, polish and improve your digital SLR photographic skills.

Principles of Photography

Your camera may be a Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Samsung, Leica, Fuji, Ricoh or even Hasselblad, the principles of good quality digital SLR photography remain the same. Knowing and understanding the basics of digital SLR photography is paramount in helping you improve and achieve your personal goals.

Topics

So what’s covered on the course?

The basic parts of a camera – all the main parts, explaining what they do and how it works.

The big 3 – Shutter Speed, Aperture & ISO, how they interact with each other.

How to hold your digital camera – often overlooked but can make a big difference to your pictures.

The unique relationship between Aperture & Shutter speed – keeping the balance.

The secret in maintaining proper exposure – changes to one affects the other.

What is Aperture Priority – explained, demonstrated and practiced.

What is Shutter Priority – explained, demonstrated and practiced.

How does Shutter speed affect your pictures – lets look at a few examples together.

ISO explained – thank goodness, things have definitely moved on from the days of film.

The impact of 18% Grey – forget 50 shades of grey !

Metering and measuring light correctly – your camera wants to help you but can have a bad day when presented with challenging conditions.

When to use Exposure Compensation – how to help your camera get the exposure right.

How does Depth of Field affect your pictures – examples and scenarios discussed.

Autofocus Points, we’ve all got them – ways and means of working quickly and efficiently to keep focused (no pun intended).

The big argument of RAW verses JPEG – there’s only one clear winner.

White Balance and colour tints – cool blues, warm whites or sick greens.

Good composition explained – rules, guidelines, always a good discussion, everyone has an opinion, it’s all subjective.

Perspective Distortion – it may blow your mind when you see what you can achieve.

Venue

For the last couple of years most of our digital SLR photography courses have been run at Hunday Manor and we have been very pleased with how they have gone. The Hunday Manor Country House near Workington is an excellent venue and the staff & facilities are great.

Classes

Through years of experience we’ve found that splitting the course into two separate evening classes works the best. The sessions are easy going, relaxed and informal. We intentionaly like to keep the groups small. We do ask that you bring your own camera with you so that you can practice and familiarise yourself by finding settings and trying techniques on your own digital SLR camera as we work through the flexible syllabus together.

Contact us

Please give us a call or drop us an e-mail if you are looking to improve, develop or simply start off on the right foot with your digital photography and we’ll give you details about future planned digital SLR photography courses in Cumbria.

Best wishes
